The Woodland Park Zoo, like most other zoos, is confined to a small, rigid, urban footprint. It holds unrelated elephants in a small space with almost no natural features. Even if the Zoo possessed the will and vision to do so, it lacks the capacity to give its elephants the range of environmental and social options critical to impart the psychosocial, physical, or cognitive skills that define the species.
